Program Overview

This session will focus on the importance of onboarding activities on retention. We will review key onboarding components, expand on activities, timelines, and "pressure points", discuss engagement strategies, and learn the importance of customization to meet needs and maximize retention.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Educate leaders to the positive effect a solid onboarding program has on retention.
  2. Walk away with tangible information to create or enhance their onboarding and retention programs at their institution.
  3. Learn engagement strategies to implement with new hires from start date to 1 year post hire.
  4. Learn how to customize onboarding and retention strategies to meet specific onboarding needs.

Donna Ecclestone

Donna Ecclestone, FASPR, is the Assistant Director of Physician Integration/ Onboarding at Duke Medicine. She is responsible for the onboarding initiatives across Duke’s faculty group practice which welcomes 150 new physicians a year and numerous NP/PAs across 14 departments. 

Donna started her career at Duke in 1997 as a staff recruiter for the Office of Medical Staff Recruitment and was promoted to Assistant Director in 2001. She has over twenty years of recruitment experience in both the in-house and contingency arenas. She has been a member of ASPR for nine years and is currently serving as ASPR Secretary, AIR President, and is a member of OAR, the fellowship committee and the ethic committee.
