JASPR Feature – Social Media: Learn Your Limits Online media: Learn your limits online

By Miranda Grace, FASPR, Physician Recruiter, Geisinger Health System, Lewistown, PA

There are obvious benefits to using social media for recruitment. Not only do recruiters get the unique opportunity to reach passive candidates where they are, but social media has provided an inexpensive and timely mode of sharing information with candidates about new and potentially hard-to-fill positions. Yet, there are serious legal risks involved with using this platform to screen candidates. When you hear "Diversity" do you really hear "Equal Opportunity Program"? Or, you hear "Diversity" and think, "They're not talking about me"? This presentation will help you to gain a greater understanding of what diversity and inclusion really is...and what it means to your health system! Sure, Diversity absolutely includes gender, race and ethnicity, but it also includes a great breadth of dimensions (yes, even straight white men). This expanded understanding of diversity and inclusion is what allows an organization to develop a true culture of inclusion where all employees feel that their contributions are appreciated, welcomed and truly valued. This presentation will discuss the effects that diversity and inclusion have on attracting the workforce of the future and how they benefit organizational performance and outcomes. (Yes, it's tied to your organization’s strategic goals!) Additionally, the presenters will discuss their experience creating a recruitment campaign that promotes a culture of inclusion and specifically how this initiative was implemented by Baystate Health’s Office of Physician and Advanced Practitioner Recruitment and Retention.
