Question of the Week

Annual Conference: What is LA Live?

This year’s Annual Conference will be held August 11-15 at the JW Marriott at LA Live in Los Angeles, CA.  Our Hollywood inspired theme this year is Mission imPossible: Recruiting the Stars of Tomorrow.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join your colleagues at this educational conference designed specifically for in-house physician recruitment professionals.

What is LA Live you ask?  LA Live is an entertainment and sports district in downtown Los Angeles. The JW Marriott is located in LA Live and venues such as the NOKIA Theatre, Club NOKIA, The Grammy Museum, the Conga Room, ESPN Zone, Lucky Strike, and the Staples Center are just a few steps away.

LA Live venues have presented major indoor sporting events such as the NHL and NBA All-Star Weekends and ESPN’s X Games and hosted red carpet awards including the Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, ESPY Awards, American Music Awards, American Idol Finale, and many more.

There are also a variety of excellent restaurants in LA Live all within walking distance of the JW Marriott.    Here are just a few of the options to choose from:

  • The Farm of Beverly Hills
  • Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar
  • Katsuya
  • Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill
  • Yard House

Take a moment to review what’s available within walking distance of the hotel and begin making your plans now.  Registration is expected to open in April, so keep your eyes peeled for additional details and the official Conference Registration Brochure!

Get a Jump Start on the Conference: Take Physician Recruitment 101

There are in-house physician recruiters — and then there are in-house physician recruitment professionals who are certified Fellows of ASPR. What’s the difference? Plenty.

As a certified Fellow of ASPR (FASPR), you demonstrate to your peers, employer and physicians your commitment to continuing education and excellence in the discipline of physician recruitment. Through our educational program, you’ll gain the knowledge, understanding and tools to attract, recruit and retain physicians who are valuable assets to your organization.

Get a jump start on the Fellowship program before the Annual Conference by taking the Physician Recruitment 101 Module via the on-demand webinar series.  Get your Associate level under your belt and be prepared to take Physician Recruitment 201 at the Annual Conference in Los Angeles!

With hospitals making ever increasing investments in physician recruitment and employment in preparation for health reform and to deal with market competition, physician engagement has become increasingly important. It is no longer sufficient to recruit and onboard physicians in organizations that are moving toward the creation of integrated systems that require significant physician engagement. In this webinar, Dr. Barber will provide the science behind effective physician engagement as well as share his experience of engaging physicians. He will explain the inner workings of the physician social network in a medical community and explore how it can be used to engage physicians.

By Gina Truhe, AASPR, Health Quest, LaGrangeville, NY

We are pleased to announce that a new special interest group, Onboarding and Retention (OAR) is officially beginning as of February. The mission of OAR is to support its members in the creation of best practice onboarding and retention strategies that can be implemented in their local organizations.
