2012 ASPR Board of Directors Election Coming Up

The ASPR Annual Elections are coming up! This year we will elect the Secretary and two Members-at-Large. In order to be eligible for nomination/election, Members of the Board must be ASPR members in the Individual Membership category and in good standing for a minimum of one year prior to the election. They must also be current active members on at least one ASPR Committee for at least one year. Board Members must be willing and able to travel (expenses reimbursed) to leadership meetings, the Annual meeting, attend monthly Board Meetings via phone, and act as a liaison to committees among other responsibilities.

PLEASE NOTE: Nominations and votes will be cast on the ASPR website. You will need your ASPR member username and password in order to log onto the website to nominate someone and to cast your vote! Please be sure to obtain your username and password in a timely manner prior to the election deadline. You can do this on the ASPR website or by contacting Member Services at 800-830-ASPR (2777).

Secretary - The Secretary is responsible for ensuring that accurate and sufficient documentation exists to meet legal requirements, and to enable authorized persons to determine when, how, and by whom the board's business was conducted.

Board Member-at-Large (2 positions open) - Serves on Board of Directors. As with other directors, has a duty to see that the organization is run in a business-like manner. This position includes the responsibility to participate in regularly scheduled meetings, serve as a liaison to a standing committee, review relevant information, and generally taking the organization’s matters conscientiously. The Member-at-Large positions are two-year terms.

PLEASE NOTE: The terms will begin in August 2012 and end in August 2014.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center announced in July a first-of-its-kind program to address national shortage of primary care physicians.

In an effort to address the U.S. shortage of primary care physicians, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine (TTUHSC SOM) announced the first three-year medical degree ever approved by the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education. The new Family Medicine Accelerated Track (FMAT) program will allow primary care students at the TTUHSC SOM to complete their degree in three years at half of the cost of the standard four-year program.
