Letter from the Editor
By Lori Jackson Norris, FASPR, Associate Editor, JASPR, firstname.lastname@example.org
Spring is that unique
time that usually
brings nice weather
to nearly everywhere
we have ASPR
It’s also one of the busiest times for physician recruitment
professionals, especially closing deals
with 2012 graduates and starting the onboarding
process for physicians who need to relocate
in time for their children to begin the new
school year. I hope all of you are able to find the
time to smell the roses while you continue to
power through this busy recruitment season!
In this issue of JASPR, Miranda Grace, FASPR,
introduces her first article in a series on social
media and physician recruitment. In “Just
Scratching the Surface,” Miranda combines insightful
research and experience with interviews
of fellow ASPR members who share her passion
and knowledge of social media use. Miranda is an
ideal member to author such a series as she “walks
the talk” daily in both her job and her personal
life. Read this and following articles by Miranda
and then send her an email, LinkedIn message or
tweet to thank her for her contributions!
In another article, ASPR members Laura
Screeney, FASPR and John Larson, teamedup to provide some invaluable tips for reducing
physician turnover with effective physician
retention strategies—and how it all starts from
the moment you begin recruiting.
And on the lighter side, Wendy Hauptli,
FASPR, writes about her first experience with
interviewing for a new job—by Skype! In her
tongue-in-cheek article, “Barking Dogs and
Skype,” Wendy finds a way to turn a daunting
experience into an opportunity to help other
members learn from her mistakes.
Also in this issue, you will find a summary of the
2012 ASPR Annual Conference. The Education
Committee has worked diligently to put together
this year’s conference and this summary will
provide you with some of the exciting details.
The full conference brochure and registration
are available at www.aspr.org.
I hope you enjoy reading and learning from your
fellow members in this issue of JASPR. And
while you are perusing, please keep in mind that
we are always looking for more original content
from our members. ASPR is an organization
built upon learning from one another, recognizing
that we have the industry experts and a
wealth of experience on board. If you have an
idea for an article that you would like to discuss,
don’t hesitate to contact me at email@example.com. Meanwhile, don’t forget to take a
break now and then to smell the roses!
