ASPR 2012 Annual Conference
By ASPR Education Committee
The Education Committee has been hard at work planning the ASPR 2012 Annual Conference, which will be held August 11-15 at the JW Marriott at LA Live in Los Angeles, CA. Our Hollywood-inspired theme this year is Mission imPossible: Recruiting the Stars of Tomorrow.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join your colleagues at this educational conference designed specifically by and for in-house physician recruitment professionals. As you strive to meet the challenges and opportunities of the evolving healthcare environment, your informational needs are greater than ever before. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to meet with and learn from colleagues.
ASPR’s annual conference is attended by hundreds of in-house physician recruitment professionals from across the US and Canada. It is an opportunity to receive cutting-edge information critical to your success in the field of physician recruitment and retention and to network with colleagues from across the country.
ASPR has made a few changes to the conference schedule this year and is extending it from two days to two and a half days for the main session. The extension of our conference will provide for additional educational sessions as well as more time to network with colleagues and enjoy the City of Angels.
Keynote and plenary speakers
The annual conference will commence with Monday’s keynote speaker, Cy Wakeman. Cy is a dynamic, well-respected national keynote speaker, workshop facilitator and trainer who helps individuals and organizations re-create their mindsets so they can achieve results beyond their wildest dreams. Her unique programs help to develop and build successful leaders and teams. Her approach is unconventional, candid, and entertaining. Based on her hard-hitting philosophy, “Reality-Based Leadership™,” Cy has helped many groups and organizations break through their reasons, stories, and excuses to develop innovative solutions to long-standing issues.
Tuesday’s keynote speakers will include nationally known healthcare futurists David Houle and Jonathan Fleece, co-authors of The New Health Age: the Future of Healthcare in America. They will speak on the future of healthcare in America and will address dynamic physician and healthcare trends.
David Houle is a futurist, advisor, and speaker. Houle spent more than 20 years in media and entertainment. He has worked at NBC, CBS and was part of the senior executive team that created and launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, and CNN Headline News.
Jonathan Fleece is a leading health care attorney, advisor, and speaker, located in Tampa Bay, FL. He is an expert in health-care reform laws, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Jonathan advises healthcare companies and professionals how to strategically plan for success during the sweeping changes that are coming in healthcare over the next decade.
As a newer physician recruiter, I have found the ASPR Annual Conference to be extremely beneficial! Not only are the educational sessions informative, but the opportunity to network with other physician recruiters from around the country who can relate to our challenges and provide advice is invaluable!
– Jennifer Barber, PHR, DASPR OSF HealthCare System
Wednesday morning will be kicked off with health-care humorist David Glickman. David has appeared on Evening At The Improv and several other national television shows. He has been the opening act for stars such as The Beach Boys, Engelbert Humperdinck, Ellen DeGeneres, Ray Romano, and performed at Gloria Estefan’s birthday party. David promises to bring his humor to the world of physician recruitment!
A total of 15 breakout sessions representing three diverse learning tracks will provide conference attendees with the opportunity to select specific topics of interest. Sessions are available for all levels of experience. Whether you are new to the field or a seasoned professional, there is something for everyone!
One learning track, Marketing and Sourcing: Identify Your Target, will focus on marketing and sourcing techniques that will include employment branding, building relationships with residency programs, behavioral interviewing, overcoming challenges of rural recruitment, and hiring international medical graduates.
Adding Value: Your Assignment, if You Choose to Accept will cover other roles and responsibilities that many in-house physician recruitment professionals find themselves taking on in addition to their recruitment responsibilities. Topics will include leadership engagement, physician manpower planning, addressing physician stress and burnout, understanding credentialing and compliance issues, and demonstrating the value of your in-house recruitment program utilizing benchmarking data.
The last learning track, Healthcare Trends: Decoding the Future, will focus on current and future trends in healthcare, including hospital and physician alignment and relationships, compensation models of the future, utilization of advanced practice providers, and changes in graduate medical education.
Interactive and in-depth sessions
The conference will wrap up on Wednesday with your choice of two interactive and in-depth discussions that no one will want to miss! Following our healthcare humorist plenary session delivered by David Glickman, attendees will have a choice to delve deeply into the topics of onboarding or social media. These hot topics are on the top of every recruiter’s “need to know” list and will provide attendees with real world information and tips to apply in their organizations.
