ASPR Mentor Program Revamped – Call for Mentors
The Membership Committee has been incredibly busy with the revamping and renovation of the ASPR Mentor Program over the past few months. Special thanks go to Tim Dybevik, of Dean Clinic and Tom Farrington, FASPR, of St. Francis Medical Group for spearheading the renovation!
The ASPR Mentorship Program is designed to provide new, in-house recruiters with a “go to resource” for the multitude of questions which are inherent to our profession. The Mentorship Program is one that is ultimately focused on helping our new members grow and develop professionally and is a rewarding experience for both the Mentor and Mentee.
The Mentor-Mentee relationship consists of a seasoned recruiter being matched with a new-to-the-industry colleague. The two form a relationship which allows for consistent and open communication designed to provide the mentee with “tools of the trade.” The mentor serves as a sounding board for ideas, provides referrals for items of interest (advertising sites, locums firms, and residency programs), introductions, and anything else that can make the mentee’s transition into the physician recruiting world a little easier.
We need your help to make the newly revamped Mentor Program a success! We are putting a call out to all eligible members to consider becoming a Mentor. In order to become an ASPR Mentor, you must be an ASPR member for at least two years and you must also have at least three years of physician recruitment experience or have achieved the Associate designation of the Fellowship Certification program (AASPR).
You can view a webinar to learn more about what is involved in being a Mentor and read the new guidelines that were developed for Mentors to help facilitate discussions with their Mentees.
For those of you who would like to be assigned a mentor, we will be reaching out to all of you once we have our roster of Mentors ready to go. Keep your eyes peeled for more information!

Annual Conference Highlight – Member Interviews
Since we’re so close to Hollywood…We’re making movies! ASPR’s Marketing Committee will be interviewing conference attendees to hear about their experience as an ASPR member. Ann Homola and Maura Teynor of the Marketing Committee are arranging for member interviews during the conference. The interview clips will be utilized on the ASPR website to help promote ASPR membership, the annual conference, our fellowship certification program, and the benchmarking survey.
If you have had a great experience with ASPR and would be interested in pre-scheduling an interview, please contact Ann Homola at firstname.lastname@example.org. See you this weekend in LA!
JASPR Feature Article: Interview with Healthcare Expert Jonathan Fleece
Laurie Pumper, ASPR Communication Director, St. Paul, and Lori Jackson Norris, Co-editor, JASPR, Senior Physician Recruiter, Dignity Health, Phoenix, AZ
Just days before the US Supreme Court made its landmark ruling upholding much of the Affordable Care Act, two members of our JASPR team talked with Jonathan Fleece, who will serve as one of the keynote presenters at the ASPR annual conference in Los Angeles. Jonathan is a leading healthcare attorney and expert in healthcare reform laws including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. He will be joined by David Houle on Tuesday, August 14, presenting on the topic, “The New Health Age: the Future of Health Care in America.” Jonathan and David co-authored a book, The New Health Age: The Future of Healthcare and Medicine in America, that has been at the top of Amazon’s charts for books about health policy. This article provides excerpts from the interview; if you needed another reason to be convinced to attend the ASPR annual conference, this just might be the one!

Reminder: Job Board at the Annual Conference
ASPR is offering a new Physician Recruiter Job Board at the 2012 Annual Conference. If you’re looking for a recruiter or are in the market for a new job, plan on stopping by the ASPR Physician Recruiter Job Board. Post a position or peruse opportunities. Arrange for a personal interview while you’re there!
The Job Board will be located next to the Registration desk in the Platinum Foyer of the JW Marriott at LA Live. You may post a job in one of two ways; you may print your job description on a single sheet of paper and post it on the board yourself or you may email a one page document in advance of the meeting to Julie Cygan at email@example.com and we will post it for you. The second option is also available to those who will not be in attendance at the meeting.
Remember: ASPR has an online job board as well where you can post positions or search opportunities for free. It is located on the lower right side of our home page. Check it out!
