Historically, in-house physician recruitment departments have been vulnerable to elimination when health care organizations experience tough economic times or a change in system leadership. This session is geared toward giving you tools and a roadmap to help you build value for yourself and your department, making elimination or downsizing a poor choice on the part of your leadership. In addition, building value and credibility positions you for justifying budgets, growth in personnel and adding services for your internal customers. You will discover the methodology to evolve your organization’s thinking from “saving money every time you hire a physician without using a search firm” to a “revenue generation” model. You will learn what data to collect and how best to present it to demonstrate the return on the investment your organization has made in you and your department. Learn how to build your own personal and departmental brand, increasing your value to your organization and helping to secure the future for you and your department.

We hope you’ve enjoyed them so much and found them so valuable that you will consider joining an ASPR Committee as a volunteer to help us continue to provide our members with the programs and resources that in-house physician recruiters need to advance in their careers. You’ve got knowledge! Talent! Ideas! Creativity! And we hope you want to share those attributes with ASPR!
Volunteering can offer you a very rewarding experience! You’ll have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and acquire new skills and experience to add to your resume. Getting involved with a committee also provides you the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the continent who have knowledge, skills, and insight that may provide ideas and solutions to enhance your work within your own organization. And we’re pretty sure you’ll make some new friends along the way!
Most Committees meet once a month for one hour via teleconference. You can get as involved as you’d like depending on your time and interest. Many Committees have subgroups that work on specific projects or pieces of projects, so you can give when you have the time and take a break when you don’t. JASPR Feature: Modern Times, Modern Ways – A Day in the Life of a Physician Recruiter

“Good morning Hawai‘i, it is five fifteen!” The radio blares and the iPhone buzzes through my pillow. Time to start making calls, e-mails and connections to the Mainland. I’m in Hawaii, the 50th state and an ocean away from the Mainland US. It’s already lunch time there and it’s the perfect time to catch a few potential candidates. Ping! Ping! My iPhone goes off again. Responses on my Twitter stream blink with news about ICD-10, and comments about meaningful use. A hospitalist tweets about using iPads in the hospital. He tweets, “How do you clean up an iPad if it comes in contact with fluids?” OK, hold that thought, it’s time to check e-mails.
