Are you a lifelong learner?
I think most physician recruitment professionals are. It seems to be a part of our DNA. It’s really crucial to our success to continually be learning…even more so now, with the extreme changes going on in healthcare. I don’t blame you if you don’t want to read through documents such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), with more than 2,000 pages…I don’t either! I hear it has as many words as the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy! Instead, take advantage of learning in “smaller doses,” on your own terms and on your own schedule. ASPR is a great resource for this.
One great example is the recent 2012 ASPR Annual Conference. If you attended, you were able to select from numerous learning tracks and breakout sessions on topics addressing all levels of experience. And, unlike the lengthy PPACA, each session was presented in about one to two hours each…the “smaller doses” I was talking about earlier! If you were not able to attend, you can view the recaps of past conferences on the ASPR website and in JASPR.
More great learning opportunities can be found year-round at the ASPR website. If you haven’t already, you can learn how to “take your career to the next level” with the ASPR Fellowship Certification Program. Your colleagues on the ASPR Fellowship Committee continue to work hard to ensure that this program is the “gold standard” of our industry. As a matter of fact, the Fellowship Committee is preparing to meet for an entire weekend in November to work on making sure the modules and exams for the program continue to be relevant and challenging. This is not your typical committee project that has a beginning and an end. This is an ongoing effort and true commitment on the part of your colleagues who make up this committee. If you haven’t begun the program yet, remember that there are study manuals and courses to prepare you for each exam. You also have a tremendous network of colleagues to reach out to for support. Set your goals today! ASPR research indicates that FASPR certification can improve your organizational status and earning potential!
Other ways to prepare for the Fellowship Certification Program and continue to learn about your profession include the popular ASPR Webinar program. The webinars are offered monthly and are absolutely free to members! If the live webinar doesn’t fit in your schedule, all webinars can be found “on demand” at the ASPR website. You’ll find a list of upcoming webinars on the ASPR website and in this issue of JASPR.
The list of learning opportunities through your ASPR membership also includes tools such as JASPR, the Resource Library, the “Chat” list-serve, the benchmarking program, and…well, the list goes on and on.
We are constantly improving, adding, and enhancing your learning opportunities, so stay tuned to the ASPR website…and, if you haven’t already done so, make a commitment now to be a lifelong learner!
