A Letter from the Executive Director

By Jennifer Metivier, MS, FASPR, ASPR Executive Director

Jen Metivier, DASPRAnnual Conference

It was great to see so many of you in Los Angeles at the 2012 ASPR Annual Conference in August! There were approximately 380 attendees and 72 exhibiting organizations at this year’s conference. The Education Committee did a fantastic job once again in planning and implementing educational sessions for both new and experienced physician recruitment professionals. A full recap of the conference is included in this issue of JASPR as well as in the Conference section of our website. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 2013 annual conference, which will be held August 10-14, 2013, at the JW Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, AZ.

On behalf of the ASPR Board of Directors and our membership, I’d like to thank Education Committee Co-Chairs Allen Kram, FASPR, HealthQuest, LaGrangeville, NY, and Joelle Hennesey, FASPR, Manatee Healthcare Systems, Bradenton, FL, for orchestrating a top-notch conference! A huge thank-you also goes out to the entire Education Committee and ASPR staff. The teamwork of this amazing group of people is greatly appreciated by all who attended the conference. I would also like to thank our conference sponsors and exhibitors, for without their support we could not put on such a successful event. Thank you!

Special recognition

The Board of Directors was pleased to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Tim Skinner, DASPR (recently retired from 3RNet, Fountain City, WI) at the annual conference. Tim was honored with a plaque and a thoughtful photo montage assembled by Paula Alter, FASPR, and Laura Screeney, FASPR. Tim was not able to join us at the conference but shared a sentimental acceptance speech via video. The Board also was pleased to present the Volunteer of the Year Award to Marci Jackson, FASPR, Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield, WI. Both Tim and Marci have volunteered and dedicated a great deal of time and hard work to ASPR over the years. Congratulations to both of them!

Monthly Webinars

One of ASPR’s key missions is to provide our members with cutting-edge education throughout the year. As we wait for our next annual conference, be sure to take advantage of the free ASPR Monthly Webinar series. The 2013 schedule is currently in development, so keep your eyes peeled for details in the coming months and be sure you take advantage of all of the past webinars that are available on-demand.

Benchmarking Report

The 2012 ASPR In-House Physician Recruitment Benchmarking Report and Executive Summary are now available. An Executive Summary is included in this issue of JASPR and is also available online. Those who participated in the survey receive free access to the full report, unique Organization Benchmarking Report, and analyzable data. Those of you who did not participate may purchase access to the report and data at any time. The 2013 survey will open in early January, so start gathering your data in preparation to participate!

New Fellowship Committee Co-Chair

And finally, congratulations to Lynne Peterson, FASPR, Fairview Health Services, Minneapolis, upon her appointment as co-chair of the Fellowship Committee. She will join Co-Chair Marci Jackson, FASPR, to lead the committee forward. Deep gratitude and appreciation go to outgoing Co-Chair Michael Griffin, FASPR, HealthEast Care System, Minneapolis, for his many years of service as the co-chair of the Fellowship Committee. Mike Griffin and Marci Jackson were the first co-chairs for the Fellowship Committee and have grown our certification program from its infancy to the comprehensive program that it is today. Marci and Lynne will work together as co-chairs to continue the growth of the program and Mike will remain as a committee member.

As always, I look forward to hearing any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, or comments from you!
