ASPR President Position Description

Function: Administrative
Role: President
Responsibilities: Administrative Oversight; Management of External Relationships; AMC Oversight

Position Purpose/Charter

The President serves as the chief elected officer of ASPR and is responsible for overall execution of goals and objectives in fulfillment of the mission of the association. The President serves as Chairperson of the board assuring that the Board fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organization. The President works in conjunction and as a partner to the President elect, helping him/her to transition and achieve the mission of the Organization. The President optimizes the relationship between the board, committees, and members. The President enhances the stature of the organization and promotes a positive image of physician recruitment.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the ASPR membership

Term

Two year term; ascends from the President-Elect position

Responsibilities/Duties/Expectations

Ensures stability of the organization through appropriate oversight of the Association Management Company (AMC), administrative activities, and vendor relations.  Advises on budgetary requirements of the organization.  Obtains appropriate review and approval of administrative functions from the ED and Board of Directors.

AMC Oversight:

Responsible for direction, review, and oversight of all AMC functions and performance
President & ED

Manage, review, and seek appropriate approvals for contracts and any associated negotiations.
President & ED

Administrative Oversight:

Supervises the overall administrative functions of the association and addresses any concerns that impact a leader in their ability to perform their role.
President

Initiates, develops, and facilitates all aspects of Board meetings, including agendas, reports, retreats, conference calls, executive sessions.
President & ED

Initiates, facilitates, and manages all aspects of the Executive Director (ED) employment relationship including hiring, termination, education/development, and the evaluation process.
President

Develops and nurtures a positive working relationship with staff, leadership and members.
President & ED

Management of External Relationships

Develops and nurtures positive Vendor Relations.
President & ED

Acts as the spokesperson for the organization.
President & ED

Takes an active role in corporate sponsorship and fundraising.
President & ED

Travels to and represents ASPR at national meetings and conferences.
President & ED

General Responsibilities of all Board Members:

Adheres to all ASPR bylaws, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Prepares for all Board and Leadership meetings by thoroughly reviewing relevant materials in advance.

Available to travel to Board and Leadership meetings as well as the Annual Conferences as required (including weekends).

Qualifications

Required:

  • ASPR member in good standing within the Individual membership category 
  • Active committee participation for the 12 months prior to the “Call for Nomination” date
  • ASPR member for a minimum of 3 years
  • Served on the ASPR Board of Directors or as a Committee Chair.
  • Fellowship certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Strong communication skills and ability to travel to represent ASPR at conferences

Preferred:

  • Minimum 5 years of physician recruitment & management experience
  • Experience with development and implementation of strategic plans
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and current trends
