ASPR VP of Research Position Description

Function: Strategic & Operations
Role: VP of Research
Responsibilities: Statistical Analysis; Industry Research; White Paper Development

Position Purpose/Charter

The Member At-Large provides governance to the organization as a voting member of the board, acts as a representative for the overall ASPR membership, and accepts ultimate legal authority for the organization. Four Member At-Large positions exist as members of the board.

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Board of Directors and the ASPR membership; communication line to President Elect


Initial two year term, may be elected for up to two additional consecutive terms


Responsible for implementation of the strategic plan as it relates to Research activities through the guidance of committee work and AMC staff. Provides budget recommendations to the Board. Obtains appropriate review and approval of Research activities from the President Elect and Board of Directors.


Manages staff and collaborates with committees to achieve desired outcomes.

Directs committee activities as appropriate for project development and implementation.

Ensures timely completion of committee initiatives and projects.
VP & Chairs

Provides oversight to ensure committee decisions align with the best interests and strategic vision of the organization.

Completes annual goals as identified and prioritized by leadership.

Directs the development and implementation of the Benchmarking program.

Directs the development of education and promotion of the Benchmarking program.

Develops and distributes relevant information on industry trends, research, and survey results.

Facilitates and initiates statistical research and whitepaper development based on industry trends and strategic plan.

Works with ED and leaders to develop standard presentations for promoting the organization and industry.

Research Surveys:

Coordinates implementation and analysis of internal and external surveys.

ASPR Resource Library:

Maintains and develops the Resource Library to ensure content is current and aligns with strategic initiatives and healthcare trends.

General Responsibilities of all Board Members:

Adheres to all ASPR bylaws, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Prepares for all Board and Leadership meetings by thoroughly reviewing relevant materials in advance.

Available to travel to Board and Leadership meetings as well as the Annual Conferences as required (including weekends).



  • ASPR member in good standing within the Individual membership category
  • Active committee participation for the 12 months prior to the “Call for Nomination” date
  • ASPR member for a minimum of 3 years
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one of the three key areas of responsibility for Research: Benchmarking, Surveying (design, methodology, implementation, and/or analysis), or Research (statistical analysis, whitepaper development, industry trends, academic papers)


  • Active membership of the ASPR Benchmarking Committee
  • Experience with conducting surveys and compiling survey results
  • Experience researching industry topics
  • Published works
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and current trends
  • Fellowship certification
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Served as a Board member or Committee Chair of ASPR or one of its Chapters
