St. Paul, MN, September 10, 2012 — More than 380 attendees and 200 exhibitors attended the annual conference of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) to discuss how to best combat the physician shortage facing all healthcare providers and patients. The theme of the conference: Mission imPossible.
“The conference included interactive sessions and opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas,” says ASPR president Scott Manning, FASPR. “Thanks to our dynamic speakers, we came away energized with new recruitment and engagement strategies.”
Kicking off the education portion of the conference was keynote speaker Cy Wakeman who provided attendees with ways to become better leaders by ditching the drama, restoring sanity to the workplace and turning excuses into results. Learning track topics ranged from hospital physician alignment models to the hiring of international medical graduates. Members had the opportunity to become certified as Fellows of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (FASPR) by attending two days of educational sessions to prepare for certification exams.
The conference also featured a keynote presentation by healthcare futurists David Houle and Jonathan Fleece. They talked about how technology is changing the focus of healthcare delivery to prevention vs. treatment. Healthcare humorist, David Glickman, kicked-off the last day of the conference with a funny take on the world of physician recruiting.
The conference concluded with two in-depth sessions focusing on Social Media and Onboarding.“The sessions took an interactive approach to two of the hottest topics in our industry,” says Manning. “The onboarding session, for example, provided key resources to launch and enhance onboarding strategies and promote an onboarding program’s value. The social media presentation offered live social media interactions, demonstrations, tips and tools on how to engage and recruit physicians via social media.”
The 2013 ASPR annual conference will be held August 10–14, 2013, at the Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, AZ.
