ASPR Recognizes The Impact of Physician Recruiters With New Infographic

St. Paul, MN, June 3, 2014 — To celebrate National Healthcare Recruiters Recognition Day (Tuesday, June 3, 2014) the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) is publishing an Infographic that illustrates the impact of the alarming physician shortage that hospitals and other healthcare organizations are facing across the country. The physician deficit is expected to hit 130,000 by 2025 and estimates indicate there will be a shortage of 45,000 primary care physicians and 46,000 surgeons and medical specialists. “Last year, more than one-third of all physician vacancies went unfilled,” says Jennifer Metivier, M.S., FASPR, executive director of ASPR. “Since a physician vacancy may cost a hospital or health system as much as $1.5 million per year, the impact in-house physician recruitment professionals have on our country’s healthcare system is tremendous. Their work ensures patients have access to the healthcare they need in their communities, even amid the physician shortage. Today - and every day - we should honor in-house physician recruitment professionals for the outstanding work they do,” said Metivier.

ASPR provides in-house physician recruitment professionals with effective recruitment, onboarding and retention strategies to effectively deal with challenges like the physician shortage. ASPR offers these professionals resources such as an annual conference, benchmarking data, and a certification program. For more information, visit ASPR’s website.
