Monday Morning Keynote: Zubin Damania, MD (ZDoggMD)

Zubin Damania, MD (pronounced duh-MAHN-yah), is an internist and founder of Turntable Health, an innovative healthcare startup that’s part of an ambitious urban revitalization movement in Las Vegas spearheaded by Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh (pronounced SHAY). During a 10-year hospitalist career at Stanford, Dr. Damania won clinical teaching awards while simultaneously maintaining a shadow career performing standup comedy for medical audiences worldwide. His videos, created under the pseudonym ZDoggMD, have gone epidemically viral, educating patients and providers while mercilessly satirizing our dysfunctional healthcare system.

Monday Afternoon Plenary: Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD, Professor of Medicine, University of California San Francisco

Gurpreet Dhaliwal, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. He studies how doctors think — how they diagnose, how they make treatment decisions, and how they develop expertise. Considered one of the most skillful diagnosticians and clinician-educators in the U.S. today, Dr. Dhaliwal sees patients and teaches medical students and residents in the emergency department, inpatient wards, and outpatient clinic at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. In 2012 Dr. Dhaliwal was profiled in the New York Times article “Could a Computer Outthink This Doctor?” He writes for the Wall Street Journal’s The Experts: Health Care blog.

Dr. Dhaliwal is a member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators and the UCSF Department of Medicine Council of Master Clinicians. He has won multiple teaching awards and has published over 80 articles in leading medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association. He has been a visiting professor at multiple universities across the U.S. and in China and Japan. He writes and speaks on physician leadership, physician engagement, and the need for physicians to engage in high-value care.

Wednesday Morning Keynote: Liz Jazwiec, RN

Liz Jazwiec, RN, is an internationally renowned speaker, strategist and author who has shared her passion for leadership, engagement and service with audiences across all industries. She is the award winning author of the bestselling books Eat THAT Cookie!, Hey Cupcake! We are ALL Leaders, and Service Excellence is as easy as P.I.E. (Perception Is Everything).

She’s also been a longtime hospital officer who helped raise service scores at Chicago, Illinois’ Holy Cross Hospital from the 5th to the 99th percentile in just a few years. Her work as vice president of patient care and as the director of emergency services was one of the key reasons Holy Cross won Fortune Magazine’s Enterprise Award for Best Business Practices.

Today, she uses that expertise to inspire other organizations interested in building a culture where excellence is driven by strong leaders and engaged employees. Many audiences describe Liz’s presentations as uplifting, motivational and fun. However, they also clearly respect her practical and experiencebased style. You’re sure to enjoy her creative and viable suggestions for addressing some of the difficult issues facing organizations today.
