Have Questions About Participating in the Benchmarking Survey? physician recruiters have questions about the ASPR Benchmarking Survey, so we created the ASPR Benchmarking Survey Q&A Form for you to submit questions. If you have questions about anything on the survey or how to complete it, fill out the form and you will receive a response to your question(s) via email.

Here are a couple of recent questions and answers that might be helpful to you.

Question: I am fairly new to the in-house physician recruitment field. How do I participate in the benchmarking survey in order to have access to the results?

Answer: You can participate in the survey online at You will need to create a username and password to gain access to the Benchmarking Portal. Once in the Portal, you simply select "Participate in Survey.”

There are four sections for you to complete and a compensation section for your HR department to complete. There are indicators letting you know when each section is complete. Only those fields indicated with an asterisk (*) are required. You can take a peek at the survey screen shots to see exactly what questions are asked on the survey.

Question: Should I count each individual position as one search? For example, I have 5 hospitalist openings. Does each one count as a search? Or does the hospitalist recruitment count as 1 search regardless of how many openings I have?

Answer: Each individual opening is considered one search. This is regardless of whether the opening is full-time or part-time. So, if you have 5 openings (3 full-time and 2 part-time), this is equivalent to 5 searches.

The 2014 ASPR In-House Physician Recruitment Benchmarking Survey is open through the end of March. The Benchmarking Survey will collect 2013 recruitment data from in-house physician recruiters from across the country. All participants will receive the final report, an Organizational Benchmarking Report, and access to the searchable data for free.

Leadership Profile: Donna Ecclestone, FASPR

Donna EcclestoneDonna Ecclestone (aka "Donna from Duke”) currently serves as the ASPR Board of Directors Secretary. In addition to her role on the board, Donna is also a member of the Ethics and Fellowship Committees, President of AIR, a JASPR contributor and a member of OAR and CAPS.

When Donna isn’t volunteering for ASPR, she is the Associate Director of Physician Integration/Onboarding for the Private Diagnostic Clinic of Duke Medicine’s Faculty Practice. Her responsibilities at Duke include streamlining and centralizing the onboarding efforts for Duke clinical faculty members across its 14 clinical departments.

ASPR recently caught up with Donna to learn more about her.

What is the best part of being an ASPR member?
I treasure the friendships that I have made and the networking that I have been able to do among my friends. I truly appreciate learning from others and love when I can share what I have learned with someone else to help their program flourish.

Why is it important to you to serve as an ASPR leader?
I have grown professionally and personally from my connections with ASPR. By volunteering, I feel that I am giving back and shaping ASPR to meet the needs of its members in the future.

What do you think are the most important attributes of a successful physician recruitment professional?
Focus on customer service. Be attentive to meet the needs of your clients.

What advice would you give to a new physician recruiter?
You are not alone. Someone has gone through the same things you have and is willing to help! Reach out. Network. Learn. Share.

What was one of your proudest moments at work?
That would have to be taking the concept of onboarding from just an idea to a formalized program. Seeing the program grow and sharing my information with others is extremely gratifying.

Can you share a funny work situation that you’ll never forget?
One of our early networking events planned by our "new” department for new faculty at Cameron Indoor Stadium’s conference room had to be canceled at the last minute due to the threat of bad weather - yes, that really happens in NC! The day the event was rescheduled just happened to be the day after Duke won the NCAA Championship game. Several people came to our rescheduled event unannounced because we were offering a tour of Cameron as part of our networking event. The new faculty members jumped at the chance to tour the stadium after the big win and we had a great crowd for our first event!

If you could have lunch with anyone past or present, who would it be and why?
Dr. John Sullivan. He’s a noted expert on Talent Management and periodically writes for I would love to talk in-depth with him about his experiences/advice on onboarding.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher.

What is your dream job after retirement?
I love working with children so I’d like to volunteer at a school or day care.

What song best describes your work ethic?
I’m torn between "Don’t worry, be happy” and "Don’t stop believing!”

What do you believe is the greatest invention in your lifetime so far?
The computer.

What was the last book you read or movie you saw?
"Frozen” with my daughter.

Name one interesting thing many of your colleagues may not know about you.
I was a college mascot at Slippery Rock University. The mascot at that time was a rock. I actually went to mascot camp as Rocky - the Slippery Rock mascot - with famous mascots (Syracuse Orangeman, Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket). Yes, it was little embarrassing! Thankfully Slippery Rock recently changed its mascot to a lion. (Check out the picture of Donna as Rocky below!)
