September 28: How Physicians Search for Jobs!

Speaker: Cathy Mai, Marketing Manager, Recruitment Advertising, New England Journal of Medicine

Sponsored by the New England Journal of Medicine

NEJM CareerCenter has commissioned a number of physician studies and surveys to help physician recruitment professionals better understand attitudes, trends, and behaviors among job-seeking physicians. The findings of the most recent study help uncover useful information that is most compelling to physician recruitment professionals. When do young physicians search for jobs? What job search sources do they use? What factors are most important to them? For anyone involved in recruiting young physicians, these are crucial questions. This is especially true given today’s extreme shortage of qualified candidates. The New England Journal of Medicine commissioned Zeldis Research Associates, Inc. to conduct an independent, blind study of young physicians, residents and fellows. The results provide an overview of when and how today’s young physicians search for jobs. Armed with this information, physician recruitment professionals can adjust their strategies to recruit physicians more effectively.

November 30: Rural Recruitment and Retention — If it Was Easy, They Wouldn’t Need Us

Speaker: Tim Skinner, Executive Director, 3RNet

The principles of “recruitention” (hard to say, essential to do) are pretty similar from urban to rural communities. However, rural physician recruiters need to be as good at the process as urban physician recruiters, and need to use all the tools available, not just a few. We need to be exceptionally responsive to candidates from the first contact to the job offer and beyond as the process moves into retention. We’ll discuss HPSAs, loan repayment programs, signing bonuses, compensation and benefits, expectations, screening, interviewing, and other components of recruitention. Why cover all this in one webinar? Because you will ask the questions that concern you, and attendees will share experiences — it’s what we do and we have among us some very sharp people.
