Registration is now open for the 2013 ASPR Annual Conference! Here is a sneak peek at one of the keynote sessions. The 2013 ASPR Annual Conference will feature M. Shane Foreman, Principal & Founder, 3d Health, who will present Physician Recruitment in a Post Reform Era on Wednesday, August 14.

There are 32 essential elements included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“Healthcare Reform”). While interesting and dizzying at the same time, many of the elements simply do not impact physician recruitment. However, there are portions of Healthcare Reform that will fundamentally change physician recruitment.

The Post-Reform Era will call for a different type of physician, a more sophisticated physician recruitment process, and physician recruiters with new and different skill sets. This session will provide participants with the knowledge, insight, and energy to evolve into the physician recruiter of the future.

Participants will learn:

Miranda GraceWhen it comes to social media use in recruitment, Kendra Hall is on top of things! Kendra, Greenville Hospital System (GHS) University Medical Center’s physician recruiter of almost two years, has been a social media guru since its inception. When the opportunity arose to implement social media in her recruitment strategy, she jumped on it; ­particularly, when her marketing team brought up the use of Pinterest. “I went straight home and started to set up our page,” Kendra explained, “Right now, Pinterest is the third most popular social media site out there, when job seekers start to use it, I’ll be ahead of the game.”

Reminder: Annual Conference Scholarship Applications Due June 14

ASPR provides four scholarships for attendance to the conference each year. Scholarships include conference registration for the Physician Recruitment 101, 201, or 301 program and the main educational conference, hotel lodging (room and tax only) for up to four nights, and roundtrip economy or coach class airfare or rail fare (not to exceed $600) to Tucson, AZ in August 2013. The recipient is responsible for making all travel, hotel, and registration arrangements (air travel must be secured with a 21-day advance fare) and will be reimbursed by ASPR upon submission of a receipt. All prizes are non-transferrable and cannot be used in conjunction with other prizes/awards. Apply online by June 14, 2013.

Unethical Behavior of Vendors – What You Can Do

Have you encountered unethical behaviors with a vendor? If the vendor does business with ASPR as an exhibitor, sponsor, advertiser, or Corporate Contributor, there may be something that we can do to address the situation. ASPR now has an Ethics Committee that is tasked with addressing unethical behaviors of ASPR vendors based on the ASPR Vendor Ethics Policy.

The ASPR Vendor Ethics Policy sets expectations and standards for Vendor Partners doing business with ASPR. ASPR expects each of its Vendor Partners to operate and act in full compliance with this Ethics Policy and all applicable laws and regulations.

The ASPR Ethics Committee has received and addressed two complaints since its inception, both regarding Vendor Partners’ staff representing themselves as physicians (or a dentist in one case) in provider databases. Both Vendor Partners received warnings and have assured ASPR that this type of behavior is considered unacceptable within their organizations and will not occur again.

If a Vendor Partner is found to have consistently violated the policy or found to have made an egregious violation, they could lose their ability to conduct business with ASPR. That means they may no longer be able to exhibit at the Annual Conference, advertise, or participate in the Corporate Contributor program.

If you encounter unethical behavior of a Vendor Partner, ASPR encourages you to first attempt to resolve your concern directly with the vendor prior to submitting a complaint to the ASPR Ethics Committee. If a satisfactory resolution is not obtained, a formal complaint may be filed with the ASPR Ethics Committee. ASPR Members, or anyone with information relevant to a possible violation of this policy, may file a complaint with the Ethics Committee by completing a Vendor Ethics Violation Form.

Onboarding has become the new need – to quickly integrate those new physician recruits into the inner workings of the organization. Then to get them busy as soon as possible, grow satisfaction and build loyalty.
