Leadership Profile: Jennifer Metivier

Jennifer Metivier

Jennifer Metivier, M.S., FASPR, has been the Executive Director of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) since 2010. Prior to joining ASPR, she was the Manager of Physician Recruitment and Retention at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, N.Y. She developed and implemented the hospital’s first in-house physician recruitment and retention program and was also involved with the organization’s medical staff manpower and strategic planning initiatives. Jennifer was the Founder and President of Upstate New York Physician Recruiters, Inc. (UNYPR), a regional association of in-house physician recruiters.

In her role as Executive Director, Jennifer is responsible for executing the strategic plan set forth by the Board of Directors. She oversees the implementation of all ASPR projects and initiatives, and monitors the financial health of the organization. Jennifer believes her role as Executive Director is an important one, “I feel that what I do ultimately helps our members learn about best practices and how to be successful in recruiting healthcare providers to their communities. This in turn is helping people across the United States and Canada receive the healthcare they need. It’s exciting to know I’m a part of that!” Jennifer also enjoys having the opportunity to meet so many of the members of the organization. “We have a lot of wonderful volunteers who never cease to amaze me with their dedication and hard work,” she said.

As a former physician recruiter, Jennifer knows firsthand how challenging the healthcare industry can be. She advises new physician recruiters to always seek knowledge to improve on what you do and how you do it. Her best advice for new recruiters? “I would recommend they join ASPR, of course! New recruiters should not only join our organization, but they should also take the time and effort required to experience all of the membership benefits. There are so many wonderful resources at your fingertips with the Chat line, Resource Library, and the many webinars available on-demand. Even our Fellowship Certification is now available entirely on-demand, which I think is an excellent way for a new recruiter to learn the ins and outs of this industry.”

If you enjoy the ASPR monthly webinars, you have Jennifer to thank. Developing the monthly webinar series is one of her proudest accomplishments. There were no monthly webinars before Jennifer joined ASPR and this has become an important learning opportunity for ASPR members who now have access to continuing education without requiring time out of the office or money for travel expenses.

If you spend a few minutes with Jennifer outside of work, you will quickly discover she is a marathon addict. She started running marathons in 2010 and ran 10 since then. This year, she is currently working on a personal goal to run the three marathons in the United States that are part of the six World Marathon Majors. She ran Boston in April and will run Chicago in October and New York City in November. The other three marathons that are part of the Majors are located in London, Berlin, and Tokyo and she hopes to run those one day as well. Jennifer is excited to be running in the NYC marathon as a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. “I’ve had an outpouring of support from some of my ASPR friends, which I’m grateful for!” Given her passion for running, it’s no surprise that Jennifers’s favorite motto is “Just do it.”
