Jackson Receives ASPR Volunteer of the Year Award

Marci Jackson
Marci Jackson, FASPR, was presented with the Volunteer of the Year Aard at the 2012 ASPR Annual Conference in Los Angeles, CA.

A new award was introduced this year at the 2012 ASPR Annual Conference. This important award was created to recognize and honor an ASPR member for significant contributions made as a volunteer over the past year. ASPR President Scott Manning had the honor of presenting the first ASPR Volunteer of the Year Award to Marci Jackson, FASPR, physician recruitment manager, Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield, WI.

Jackson is a long-time member and leader of ASPR. She has served on the ASPR Board of Directors as both the president and treasurer, and has served as co-chair for the Fellowship Committee for several years.

Past Fellowship Committee Co-Chair Michael Griffin, FASPR, was pleased that Jackson received the prestigious award. “It has been my great pleasure to know and work with Marci over the last 17 years. We worked side by side in physician recruitment at two different organizations, and we began as Fellowship Committee co-chairs in 2009. Marci has been instrumental in shaping and developing the Fellowship Committee since its inception. She has been a key member of the board of directors and other committees such as Education and Benchmarking. Marci is always willing to take on a new project or complete a task that is key to the launch of any new project, like her current involvement in the Onboarding and Retention group. As a past president of ASPR, Marci realizes how important it is to take responsibility and accountability to move initiatives forward, work with others to achieve engagement, constantly stay in touch with our membership, and represent the profession to not only her organization but also to the entire external community. Volunteers like Marci have made ASPR what it is today, the leading authority on physician recruitment and retention,” said Griffin, manager of physician/provider recruitment, HealthEast Care System, St. Paul, MN.

Ann Homola, FASPR, board member at large, echoes Griffin’s praises for the volunteer efforts Jackson has put forth. “Marci has been a tireless volunteer for many years. This past year, her father passed away unexpectedly, she welcomed a new grandbaby into the world, and moved halfway across the country to start a new job, with more responsibility in a larger organization. These life changes may have discouraged anyone with lesser commitment…No one would have blamed her for taking some time out. But her determined leadership of the Fellowship Committee…and team leader for re-writing the 301 exam continues. Marci is always positive, upbeat and focused,” said Homola, who is the director of provider recruitment and retention services for Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME.
