By Michael Griffin, FASPR, and Marci Jackson, FASPR, Fellowship Committee Co-Chairs
ASPR celebrated the graduation of the first class of Fellows of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (now known as FASPRs) on Tuesday, August 17, during an inaugural ceremony. The celebration featured a Star Wars theme, comparing the accomplishment of completing fellowship to becoming a Jedi Knight in the Star Wars Saga: both require hard work, diligence and innovation. Fellowship Committee chairs Marci Jackson and Michael Griffin (dressed as Darth Vader) congratulated the group for their accomplishment and mastery of “The Force.” The many years it has taken to develop the Associate, Diplomate, and Fellow modules, as well as the long and involved process of appropriately and professionally validating the testing sequence, was referenced with the opening “In a galaxy long ago and far away....” to chronicle the journey ASPR has taken to provide this training to its members. The names of all Associates, Diplomates, and Fellows were included in the video, scrolling to the inspiring music of the “Star Wars” theme, and Fellows in attendance were asked to stand.
The ceremony highlighted the achievement of our ASPR fellows, and we hope that the enthusiasm displayed by this initial group will help others to recognize the value of this achievement. One of our new fellows notified us that by becoming a Fellow, she is now eligible for an additional bonus from her employer. We take this opportunity to invite all of our members to participate in the program. The modules continue to evolve with additional speakers and support materials. We also invite you to join the Fellowship Program Committee, to help us in our continued efforts to upgrade programming, resources, and testing.
